Ugh, March 17th has come around again. Amarissia does not like this day. Amarissia avoids being seen outside on this day...which is not very unlike every other day, but the reason today is different. I am Irish, and all about Celtic pride, but I look even more Irish than I am. Red hair, green eyes, the only thing I'm missing is a leprechaun sidekick. So, inevitably, if I go OUT THERE before tomorrow, I will be waylaid by some well-intentioned person who will ooh and aah over the hair and jovially assume that this must be my favoritest day of the year.

No. Alas, no. I do not celebrate St. Asshole-Who-Oppressed-My-Religion's Day. But for those of you who do take this excuse to cut loose a bit and be merry, I wish you all a lovely time. For musical accompaniment, I offer the only traditional Irish song I allow on this date, Stephen Lynch's "Down to the Old Pub Instead". Um, it's a bit gross, but more funny.

Also, Cloud is a bit confused and thinks this day is about celebrating Patrick his pet chocobo. So if you happen to see him dashing about with streamers and cupcakes, don't be alarmed.

You're Irish? Very cool! :)

Since I'm not Xtian, I'm afraid that all these "saints" days just more or less pass me by. The only reason why I still do some for of Xmas is because of my daughter. She loves the whole baking and tree and lights and presents thing. But totally without any religious overtones. I do my own thing, she's grown up more or less a blank slate and if one day she decides she wants religion or spirituality of any kind, then that's her decision.

So. No celebrating Druid-killers in this house. :) Eostre's coming up, though. So there will be celebrating, soon. ^^

I'd rather help Cloud celebrate his chocobo. *hands Cloud chocolate cupcakes and neon colored streamers* ^___^
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:12 pm (UTC)
Not Christian either, so I don't really get the whole saint thing either. And all I do for Easter is inform people that they stole the rabbits and eggs from us. Also, Jesus's family tomb was found some years ago, so, you know, I think Easter is cancelled.

That's cool, what you're doing with your daughter...that's basically how I was brought up, with a dad who talked to me about lots of different beliefs and a lot of books on world religions. :)

Cloud: "YAY!" *hugs, throws confetti*
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 09:59 pm (UTC)
*ggg* Not only Easter, but Yule, too.

She has to make her own decisions, where spirituality's concerned. She attended some religion classes in Elementary school - because all the kids did (more or less mandatory). But now she's in something called Ethics, which (depending on the teacher) is kind of interesting. Right now though, she's more interested in make-up, a new hair-do, shopping at H&M and chatting with all her friends all weekend. :) We'll see what happens when she gets a bit older.

Did you see the goodies I sent via LJ gifts? There's some there for Cloud, too. ^___^
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 10:14 pm (UTC)
Oooh, you North or South Irish? I'm guessing South?
And.... red hair and green eyes? *is really jealous*
I just inherited a twinge of a Northern Irish accent from my Grandfather -__-
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:13 pm (UTC)
LOL, no idea. I had ancestors in Limerick, I know that...

Accent! GIMME! *flails*
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 11:10 pm (UTC)
The only reason today has any significance is that it's a friend's birthday. Holidays in general go right over my head and the only way I can really tell that we've had one is all the good candy is on sale the following day. XD

Not looking forward to passing by the pubs on my way to work tonight. Drunken idiots taking to the streets with their green coloured beers inspires in me a murderous rage that will have me picking up the nine iron on my way out the door.

Happy Chocobo Day, Cloud! =D

Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:15 pm (UTC)
Cloud: "YAY! Cupcake?" *offers, giggles* "I drew Patrick on it with icing, see?"

I hope you didn't kill anyone...or at least that you hid the body well.

Sephy: "Incinerating it would be preferable."
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 11:13 pm (UTC)
I don't think ANYONE I met today even mentioned what today was XD Maybe that's a sign, of some sort? English Teenagers are getting more forgetful!
But I digress...
You're Irish?! I don't know why but...I never considered that. Ever. I don't know what I really thought to begin with but...whatever. Your air of mystery just faded slightly. You’re awesomeness did not, however!
Enjoy hiding from the world for the rest of you day/night/whatever
/beyondtiredhypergabble...oops X3
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:22 pm (UTC)
AGH, my air of mystery! *grabs for it* I'm also English, German, a bit Norwegian...wait, is that making me even less mysterious? AGH!

*pouts, wants accent*
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 08:02 pm (UTC)
Huzzah! hehe
Yup, your Air of Mystery is now a sorta...Wisp of Semi-Bewilderment. Or Something XD hehe
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 11:16 pm (UTC)
Ah, same here I despise St. Patrick's Day. Even though through the ages my family name went from O'Donaghue to McCormack to O'Neill to O'Connor.......

Fellow Green eyes!!! Hooray! Minus the fact that my hair's super dark. And it comes with this horrendous white-Irish-Catholic-raised-Girl skin which breaks out in a blotch whenever I feel ANY EMOTION whatsoever. Make up. Make up make up.

My dad's mom's from Belfast, and married a man from Galway.......north plus south, eh? So my dad has the ear and the mouth to swear in Gaelic and taught me some, but kicked the brogue, unfortunately. But when he's mad at me or trying to be funny he'll put it on.
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:25 pm (UTC)
HEE, we might come from the same Celtic tribe! Oh, you've got the super-ghost-white skin too? Isn't it so much fun? :)

Raised Catholic? *pause* Do you need a hug? Lots of hugs?

LOL, so you can hear that charming accent all the time? Awesome! I tried to learn Gaelic once, but didn't get very far. I hope that one's not on your list, it's CRAZY.

*wants to know swear words* :)
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 12:07 am (UTC)
It's another case of watching the internet explode with bizarre mostly-American customs for me.
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 12:17 am (UTC)
I'm up for helping Cloud celebrate Chocobo Day. It makes as much sense as any other holidays. Wark kweh, Patrick!
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:27 pm (UTC)
Cloud: "YAY! Everyone likes my holiday!"
Patrick: "Cheep?"
Cloud: "It's okay, you get another day next year, Amarissia said."
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 02:08 am (UTC)
I just like any holiday that involves pretty colors on my cookies XD I'm only 1/4 Irish, so I don't get a lot of comments about the holiday ^^; My sympathies to those of you who do.

*points at robonun's post* I'm with her. Chocobo Day for the win. *gives Patrick Gyhsal Greens*
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:28 pm (UTC)
Patrick: "Wark!"
Cloud: "He said thank you."
Zack: "Who ya talking to, Cloudy?" *looks* "EEP! Um, hi." *backs away*
Angeal: "Please excuse him, he had a disturbing dream." *smiles when Zack's not looking*
Friday, March 19th, 2010 01:12 am (UTC)
*griiiiinnn* Oh, did he now? I don't suppose you'd like to share, would you, Zack?
Friday, March 19th, 2010 03:59 am (UTC)
Angeal: *pets* "You might feel better if you talk about it."
Zack: "I don't think so. But it had nothing to do with babies or pain or hospitals. In fact, it was Cloud's dream, and he can't remember it."
Cloud: *blink blink*
Friday, March 19th, 2010 04:15 am (UTC)
Awww, puppy... *has second thoughts about sending a certain RP...* I'm sure they'd be able to obtain elephant tranqs for you, though ^^
Friday, March 19th, 2010 11:29 pm (UTC)
Zack: *pout* "Even if it didn't hurt, I'd have to get all huge and wobbly and cry a lot. And, like, I don't think I'm mature enough to have kids, even if I could. Angeal has his hands full taking care of ME, too." *laughs*

(Send the RP.) :)
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
I didn't even know what today was until a friend pointed it out to me. I'm also a part Irish, not sure exactly how much. But today was like every other day to me.

Happy Chocobo Day, Cloudy!! :D
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:28 pm (UTC)
Cloud: *giggle* "Thank you!"
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 05:16 am (UTC)
St. Patrick's Day is like Valentines: totally misunderstood. We're celebrating a saint, dammit, not tiny young men and having the urge to look puke green. Understand that people! Instead of it being St. Patrick's, I'm taking the Cloud way and just call is Chocobo Patrick's Day. *hands Patrick Greens* FTW for Chocobo Patrick's Fay! And Stephen Lynch!

You have green eyes? And red hair?! *is envious* I'm Asian, through and through. All black hair and eyes. I envy you Amarissia!
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:30 pm (UTC)
Cloud: "YAY! Everyone likes my holiday better!" *twirls* "Amarissia told me about leprechauns, though. I want to meet one!"

I will swap you the green eyes and red hair for the Asian-ness. Otherwise, if I ever get to visit Japan, I'll stick out, which will equal anxiety. Deal?
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 08:26 am (UTC)
I've never really liked this holiday once I learned what I was when I decided to stop listening to the Church. Then a whole bunch of poo happened, so you and me, next year, will celebrate Chocobo Patrick day with cupcakes, streamers, and porn. It has been decided.

:D
Thursday, March 18th, 2010 07:33 pm (UTC)
Cloud: "YAY! I'll have a big big party and you can help me decorate, right? And we'll use yellow streamers, 'cause Patrick is yellow."
Patrick: "Wark?"
Cloud: "Patrick wants you to pick him up. Careful, sometimes he leaves little feathers everywhere." *bounce* "Seph says I'm not allowed to go near churches, except Aerith's, 'cause they're might be bad people. Ooh, we can have our party in Aerith's church!" *runs to make plans*
Friday, March 19th, 2010 04:40 am (UTC)
I have deep-seated cynicism towards organized religion in general and Christianity of any flavor in particular, so.

I self-identify as being culturally, not religiously, Jewish.

I didn't even realize yesterday was St. Whoever's day until a couple classmates started discussing it on their way out the door a few minutes ago.>.<

Can I join in the Chocobo Patrick's day celebrations?
Friday, March 19th, 2010 11:25 pm (UTC)
Cloud: *giggles, offers festive cupcake* "And you have to pet Patrick, it's a new tradition!" *holds him up* "Isn't he soft?"
Friday, March 19th, 2010 02:47 pm (UTC)
I haven't checked your journal in like, forever! I'm sorry! Um... Um... Blame school? D: *hides*

*reads article* That's... rather disturbing. But of course, like Christmas (or any holiday, really), this day has long lost its original meaning. And is all about boozing. Reminds me of Carnival which I luckily don't celebrate.

*ties a tiny green bow around Patrick* Aww...

Btw, Cloud, that's your female cousin *points to icon*.
Friday, March 19th, 2010 11:11 pm (UTC)
Cloud: *bounce* "HI COUSIN! Wow, she does look like me! We could dress up as each other and no one would know!"
Sephy: "I would." *shudder*
Patrick: "Cheep?"
Cloud: "Remember, she's our friend who has the windmills."

(Yes, Cloud thinks you rule the land of windmills, which may be why, in all his drawings, you wear a crown.) :)
Sunday, March 21st, 2010 08:25 am (UTC)
*imagines Sephy/Lightning* SNORT. She'd hit him square in the face. Or try to, at least. You never know with these SOLDIER reflexes.

That's weird, and yet, adorable. Aww, Cloudy. <3
Sunday, March 21st, 2010 08:11 pm (UTC)
Poor Sephy, he'd have no idea what to do. A Cloud with girl parts! EEEK.

Cloud: *swings Patrick around in the air* "Are you taking good care of the windmills?"
Monday, March 22nd, 2010 11:53 am (UTC)
We do not want any kind of het involving Cloud, now do we? (The word 'het' makes me laugh because it's the Dutch word for 'the'.)

Of course, dear. Spring brings a nice breeze, it makes them much happier then the sharp winter winds. When the flowers start to bloom, you should visit again :)
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 04:14 pm (UTC)
LOL, really? So you have to listen to me shrieking about how I hate 'the'? I'd spend a lot of time confused if I were you. :)

Cloud: "YAY! Can we decorate the windmills? We can use Genesis's ribbons, he has lots."
Genesis: "AGH! My hair ornaments!"
Thursday, March 25th, 2010 06:05 am (UTC)
Haha that's alright, after urbandictionary-ing what it meant, I wasn't confused anymore.

*ignores* Of course dear, I'm sure Genesis doesn't mind. *inspects hair ornament* Oh come on, Gen, kama sutra hairclips?
Friday, March 26th, 2010 03:16 pm (UTC)
Genesis: *preens* "I also have undies patterned with copulating butterflies. Um, don't tell Cloud, Seph thinks it will traumatize him."

DUDE.
Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 12:36 pm (UTC)
A little late and out of whack but I saw the link to Stephen Lynch's song in this post and my first thought was:
"Yay! I'm not the only crazy-girl-who-actually-finds-this-mildly-creepy-guy-hilariously-amusing!"
And I decided that I had to let you know :D Just because the muses told me to, and everyone knows that we have to respect the muses or they get cranky - and that is a very bad thing -scared-

And just in case you were wondering (which you might not have been) I'm the same Queen-of-Sussness from fanfiction.net and I only just made a livejournal account - so yay for me :P Add me as a friend? Please? We all need more friends in this crazy world :D Yay for friends!

xoxo
Thursday, May 20th, 2010 04:15 pm (UTC)
Yay, welcome to LJ! I can scare you more efficiently here. :)

Stephen Lynch is the awesome...have you heard his "Tiny Little Moustache" song? So, so funny.
Thursday, May 20th, 2010 10:54 pm (UTC)
Thanks, and I don't mind being scared :P

Tiny Little Moustache (Nazi!) is pretty good, but I reckon Beelz (Satan!) is absolutely hilarious :D Also, if you don't know them already, you should listen to Alter Boy (Priest!) and Grandfather Die (Kill!) because they are fun and oh so wrong, but still funny anyway :P

Don't mind the words in brackets - I need to let my enthusiasm out somehow and that's the easiest way when I'm typing a message, because then you can share the enthusiasm too! :D
Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 05:22 pm (UTC)
I love those! Especially the gay voice he uses for Beelz...and ooh, "Jim Henson's Dead". It's oddly moving.

Bracket away, I know enthusiasm well, and it must be let out!
