FFX-2 Ranting You Can Totally Skip

Genesis, I know. I know there are too many boobies and Girl Power poses and high-fives and inane dialogue from Rikku. I, too, did not get sucked into the drama and voices and pretty scenery of FFX thinking I would end up barreling my berserked way through its Pretty Pretty Princess sequel for no particular reason other than the vague hope that I might see a glimmer of Auron somewhere and that Yuna wouldn't be a total whore now and I might even find out what the hell happened to Tightass Tidus. Who was, as the good people at videogamerecaps.com point out, a wanker, so that's not even a good reason.

But, but, you cannot go leaping onto my head with a girly shriek every time Leblanc pushes her way onto the screen with her lack of shirt and purposely unbuttoned coat-thingy. You cannot scream "Kill it! Kill it!" and try to Firaga the screen, requiring Sephy to step in and knock you out and shove you under the bed to keep you out of the way. As an aside, Zack, you cannot interrupt my Tonberry-induced panic to grab the controller and plead with me not to kill the wretched thing, because you are wrong, Tonberrys are not cool, they are sadistic little bastards who casually go around knifing people with no change of expression. Hmm. Back to yelling at Genesis.

Genesis: *pout, hides face in Angeal's sweater*
Angeal: *sigh*
Genesis: "Don't sigh so, 'Geal. I know you love me, truly, madly, deeply. You want to stand with me on a mountain and all that."
Angeal: "I want to push you off a mountain."

And I never want to see Yuna in a samurai outfit again. I won't be able to watch Mirage of Blaze for hours.

Okay. Clearly the only way to get my brain back into yaoi writing where it belongs is to beat this damn game once and for all and stop dicking about with side missions and chocobo-catching and repeatedly talking to that one Hypello so I can hear him say "Ride zee shoopuf?" I am motivated. I am dying of estrogen overdose. I will end this ill-conceived nightmare. I will find out what happened to my Tightass.

Genesis: "Puppy will probably pose the same question soon, if the frequency of his and Angeal's disappearing into their room is any indication."
Zack: *jaw drops, growl*
Genesis: "Don't worry, dear, mako will keep things nice and snug, although if Angeal's size is anything like I remember..."
Angeal: "Amarissia, when you're through with that game, call up the FFVII world map and find me the nearest mountain."

Will do. I'm off to suicide-bomb the Via Infinito. I told those wankers in Bevelle I'd get them for their fruity hand gesture and guards who attack me with their long, fire-spouting hoses. (Stop looking so interested, Genesis.) Then I will see the Tightass and maybe Auron will be in there too, and yes, I meant it like that.

Why did they even bother making a sequel to X, and not another one for FFVII? I, for one, want to know what happens after Dirge! You can't just bring Genesis back, then leave us hanging!
I suppose all the girls are aimed at a male audience. Oh well, Squeenix have provided with a fair share of bishies. I suppose they needed to keep the male non-yaoi-fanboys happy.

Oh, I hadn't heard that, but YAY!!! Oh, I hope they get Gackt to do another song... or 20... in cosplay... Or without cosplay!
Boys really shouldn't play video games. They always underestimate girl gamers. But then again, putting them in their place is fun. And bragging about being the school pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! champ to their faces gets them all flustered... And beating boys at DDR is waaaaay too addictive to be healthy...

To tell the truth, the only reason I wanted to play that game was to know Lenne and Shuyin's story. Their scene during Yuna's song with the guitar solo was to sweet for me to resist...
Somehow, the "new Yuna" manages to annoy me more than the normal one...

Honestly, and not to spoil anything, I think you'd be better off pulling up the end movies off YouTube. They have both the Japanese and English versions (subbed or dubbed) and then you'll be able to see what Tightass has been up to.

Okay, X really confused me- not only was the level up (?) screen being needlessly complicated even in beginner mode but the progression of characters from the previous games threw me off.

We had Cloud: not actually very angsty for his game, just a little confused. No father issues unless you look in subtext despite the fact that said father left/died when Cloud was very young. Only child, rest of family killed, etc, etc. HE GETS ON WITH IT. The self pity is bottled up until AC. *Coos*

Squall was an orphan with a stick up his insanely tight ice princess arse but considering that the orphanage who raised him also handed him over to a mercenary school which sucks out your memories ala Summons...yeah, we forgive you Squall. For everything but Mary-Sue, I mean Rinoa. *StabbitySTAB*

Zidane moved away from the angst corner: a loveable sweet-talking thief with a monkey tail who is also an orphan but doesn't make a fuss about it. The ending scene also made me cry. Both the brotherly dynamic and the Dagger reunion. She's a heroine I actually like since she has an excuse to act like a Princess UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE. >:(

All of the above are main characters you can relate to, look up to and sympathise with (not to mention they fluctuate betweeen degrees of humana-humana and as glompable as a newborn chocobo *you know who you are*).

THen you get Tidus who makes a huge fuss about his dad leaving him because he gets possesed or something and after the hissy fit blondie settles down to play an underwater ball game and whine about how unfair his life is. Yeah... u________u Am I the only one who thinks a lot of hope is resting on XIII? 'Cos the series severly went down after IX.

Forgive the ramble, I've been trying to get a Gold Chocobo before Ruby Weapon shows up. I'm currently at the Green/Blue stage and my head can't take anymore theme music. S-class is sooooo hard! >_<

FYI, Angeal, the tallest mountains are actually in Wutai but the pointiest are in Nibelheim. Take your pick. :)

:) I never played FF9, and before X my only experience with FF heros was Cloud and Squall, so I found Tidus rather startling. And an idiot. But he actually grew on me. (I suspect the rampant sexual tension he had with Auron contributed to that.) Then I played FFXII, which was horrifyingly bad, which I should've known the second I found out Nomura didn't design the characters for that one. I'm kind of scared to try any more.

AGH, sympathy. I spent weeks, frustrated weeks, breeding those bloody chocobos...Knights of the Round is an awesome summon, but I end up using it, like, twice.

Hmm... Gold Saucer is pretty tall and there's a lovely inescapable desert beneath it. Gen-Gen isn't any good at riding chocobos is he? :¬/

I've got a black after three days solid breeding and racing but she's completely untrained. Called her Hel after the Norse goddess. ^_^ I figure it will all e worth it soon, plus I'm playing for completeness this time around, been years since the last time I played at all past disk one (Aeris! *sniffles*).

I can't even remember much about my FFX experience, just that it was needlessly complicated and the characters annoyed me. I'm not even that fond of Auron and he's the only decent one in the lot. Glad you can get some enjoyment out of it at least, even if you just want it to be over.

Question for Cloud: What should I name my Gold? Leaning towards Kin (girl) and Kohaku (boy) but they're a bit unoriginal. I can't ask the game Cloud his opinion and I'm afraid Yuffie's influencing his choices a bit. Any suggestions?

It had such potential... before they went and actually made it... I mean sure, I like Yuna and I'll even accept the plotline of her "growing up" into a mature and independant woman... but all the rest....? IT MADE NO SENSE! NONE!

But sadly, that didn't stop me from playing it.... TT.TT

:) I'm determined to finish it just to have the story done with...but in the meantime, I'm watching the FFX cutscenes on YouTube. In Japanese, which has ruined me for the English version and now I will have to buy the international version and one of those thingies that will allow my PS2 to play it. GAH.

I like Yuna too. I liked that she actually wore clothes and was sweet and Gaia help me I even awwwed at her and Tidus a few times. And I hate het! But now...agh, she lost the backbone she grew in X and obviously she's been letting Rikku choose her clothes...

Actually she did... and that makes me cry too.

The first time I played X, though, I didn't like her much until later in the game when she proved to be more than the typical jrpg leading lady, filled with sweet "push-over-ness". Always loved the speech in Yunaleska's temple (both versions). :)

I was so pissed that they wasted a parfectly good battle system on that game. If there had been more characters (and a line of yummy men) who weren't in X and a different plot, I would have loved the game. As is, I don't.

I've never played FFX-2, so I had to look up Leblanc. Personally I think she looks incredibly yummy, and must thank you for giving me more material to goggle at open-mouthed, and probably a new keyword in my doujinshi searches. *pets her picture happily* What's she like, personality-like? Spunky? She looks spunky. Bet she and Yuffie would get along ridiculously well. Heh...really well...*pervy daydream*

*cough* Um. Enough with the paragraph that probably squicks you a bit. I've actually heard really good things about X-2! You just have to not take it seriously at all and probably not consider it canon. It's just a cute, fun game, reviewers say. Of course, the incredible number of women probably ruins it for you.

Why do you think Yuna is a total whore in this game, anyway? Is there something I'm missing about adorable little Yuna, who I only know of from my Rikku/Yuna fanfic and dj? *probably has a ridiculously warped perception of her*

Isn't Tidus supposed to be dead? That's my understanding of FFX. Is there something I'm missing?

LOL. Leblanc, hmm. Well, like all the characters in FFX, she's incredibly indecisive, almost as though she was part of a rather flimsy plot. :) She's a villain (a rival sphere hunter to Yuna's gang), but eventually she she ends up helping. A little. Because Yuna is helping a Sephy-Voice named Nooj who Leblanc is in love with. Yike. She calls everyone "love", is rather conceited, and runs around with two lunkhead assistants named Ormi and Logos who are in love with her. Her base of operations is in Guadosalam, Seymour's old palace-thing, and in one scene, Yuna had to be disguised as one of her workers and give her a really creepy massage. There was moaning. I was traumatized.

Yeah, it was kinda cute and fun. It would have been better if Rikku hadn't, you know, talked. At all.

She's not really a whore, although whoa missy, did Lulu really let you out in those short shorts? I just miss fully-dressed Yuna from FFX, who was a bit naive and easily led but eventually grew into a pretty kewl heroine. She had some good moments in FFX-2, though.

AHHH! *calms* My impression, at the end of FFX, was that Tidus ended up...somewhere. Possibly the Farplane, maybe back in his own world, but I never thought he was dead. Well, kind of. Damn.

Aww. What was so bad about Rikku talking? I haven't played FFX, but I've seen some cutscenes, and mostly I find her ridiculously cute and pettable--almost like a female Cloud, but obviously with a very different personality. The real female Cloud is much more badass. *pokes Lightning in the forehead* How did the Choir react to the news of girl-Cloud, anyway?

I can see how the change in image could potentially be jarring, especially since Yuna does seem kind of socially vulnerable despite her adamantium backbone. Still, the game is at least 90% fanservice--you can't really blame them for putting Yuna in short-shorts. :P

But...wait, I thought...but if he was just a dream, then...argh, my understanding of this game is not thorough enough for me to comment!

Spoil away. If I do end up playing, it won't be for the storyline. ;D

Omigod, I'm so there with you, sister. I picked up the game only so I can see lovely cutscenes of and the reason for how Tidus returns (according to some sources), but the girliness! Oh, the girliness!!! The silly little outfit changes and poses and ridiculous rock concert!!! And what the hell happened to make Yuna into a little globe-trotting thief?

And the girliness! The girliness!!! Did I mention the girliness?!! I had to take a hiatus from X-2, and I'm not sure I'll be able to go back.

...Especially since I've got XIII. Well, I finished it, actually, but now I'm going back and doing the insane missions I couldn't complete before. And I've got KH 358/2 Days on hold, as well as the Japanese version of FFVII (yes, I'm going back in). So, yeah, I've got a lot on my plate without inflicting so much estrogen upon myself.

Japanese FFVII, I'm so jealous! That really needs to be remade, with better translation and the option of Japanese dialogue. And voices, of course!

I just finished FFX-2, so hopefully the estrogen overdose will wear off soon. But I'm happy I did it, the end made me happy. :) C'mon, you know you'll have to go back eventually...

I played it for the same reasoning that you did and nearly cried because I was trying to figure out what happened to make Yuna so out of character. *headdesk* Why? Why did Yuna lose her dignity?

Sudden loss of bishie requires intense therapy to cope with, and poor Yuna didn't have that. I suspect Rikku took her out to get wasted at some point, and in a drunken stupor, Yuna decided to start dressing like a whore. And with her aeons gone (my beautiful aeons!), what was left to do but run around in a girl-power squad and steal shiny balls?
