I vote for skin peeling, for starters. But on another note, I've noticed the tense change thing you've been attempting these past couple of chapters. I think it worked pretty well for conveying immediacy the first time around but lately it's starting to look a little rough in the execution. Just a nitpick, is all.

Awww, Zack. Man, it sucks being an author's favorite, doesn't it? And I thought I was mean to Cloud...

(Well, I am mean to Cloud. I may have to bow before your amazing meanness, though.)

The only thing that sort of bothered me about this chapter was the way Zack was "woken" from his trance state. Usually, if someone is trained to be able to withstand pain through a trance or dissociating, a physical or sexual assault would make them withdraw more, not less, regardless of whether it arouses the victim or not. Still falls under the category of "bad touch, going away now," so to speak. Safety's usually what wakes people up from things like that. Regardless, it was very effective to communicate what a bastard Tatake is. It's an amazing show of moral dissonance that he finds his soul mate and proceeds to sexually and emotionally abuse him.

Methinks this Miru guy needs to make an appearance from beyond the grave and verbally bitchslap Tatake so hard that the guy's psyche is entirely shattered and he is completely incapable of living with himself, since death is apparently off the menu. >:(

Uh, okay, I'll do it. Zack was dissociating, but he hadn't gotten far into the trance before he was "woken". When he did it to avoid the meanie lawyers, they left him alone for a little while and gave him time, plus he knew he wasn't in danger of being grabbed in his no-no place. Unfortunately, it's harder to detach the more afraid you are. This is a very faint foreshadow thing, but so faint that I don't think it will spoil anything. I just needed to remind everyone of the ability-to-detach thing...

I guess Tatake's bastardness is coming through as well as I hoped. That guy is all kinds of messed up...

Ah, that explains it. I was thinking more along the lines of natural dissociation--people who do it without training as their normal response to something that' just too much would just retreat further in response to sexual assault, but given that Zack, though good at it, has to force himself to do it, that makes sense.

Ooh, the ability-to-detach is going to come in handy later on? Or not-so-handy, maybe, if they're all rescued but Zack won't come out of it...hmm.

I'd feel bad for Tatake for being so messed up, but he's a messed up rapist and those I don't sympathize with. His comeuppance will be sweet, though. >:D

The sad thing is how ineffective a kidnapper I would be. Mostly I would set him in front of the TV, stare at him, and slavishly carry out his every whim, especially if it involved food or animals. Why so cute, Cloud?

Zack's gagged? Who let Genesis play with him? That's rarely a good combination...

Eh, don't worry about it. You'll find a way to make it satisfying. Though, really, I'm less about the vengeance and more about the hurt/comfort. (Me, a sick puppy? No, no, you've got me confused with Zack. He's come down with a bit of a cold...)

Don't worry, after each chapter Zack and Angeal go have a nice quiet time by themselves, which I'm told involves a lot of video games and junk food and sometimes horror movies. (Angeal would not forgive me for the story angst if he didn't get snuggles out of it.) ZACK!

Zack: *wanders out, glares at me* "Uh, thanks, Robo. Maybe I'll come, but I think Cloud and Ryu have more fun without me moping around." *smile*
Angeal: *hug* "If you decide not to go, we can do whatever you want."

He's so spoiled... :)

Cloud: "YAY! Marathon! I can show you my new trick!"

The new trick he's referring to involves kicking four walls down in one jump. Poor Robo. :)

No worries, Zack, it's an open invite. We've got other games if you don't care for Rock Band. I recommend Marvel Ultimate Alliance because Spider-Man's voice is done by Reno's English voice actor. We can get him killed repeatedly by Dr. Doom for big laffs. Which leads to a good question for the whole Choir: What do you think of your English VAs? I know Amarissia said you all sound like your seiyuu.

Yes, they all sound like their seiyuu, except they speak English, except when they want to annoy me and turn off the Universal Translator. Cloud sounds a bit younger and bouncier than he usually does in canon, which I guess is to be expected. CHOIR! A question!

Sephy: "I haven't been able to adequately judge my English voice. Amarissia dislikes it and thus refuses to play it. I suppose it is acceptable."
Angeal: "Same here. Amarissia says my English voice sounds too much like Lazard's, and Zack misses my real voice if it's not being used."
Zack: "Yeah, Amarissia's not too thrilled about mine either. I don't mind it, it just doesn't really sound like me. Not enough enthusiasm, ya know?" *smile*
Cloud: "Amarissia says my English voice actor sounds like he's reading off cue cards. I think he sounds older than me."
Genesis: "Crisis Core was all right, but don't get me started on Dirge of Cerberus. I had, like, one line, and it came out like the actor had a bad cough and was speaking English for the first time. WTF?"

...I've been getting some very creative suggestions about what should be done with Tatake. When he does get met with justice, I'll probably get complaints that it wasn't violent enough... :)
