A Conversation With The Choir: In Which We Review Animes

In no particular order (and with no particular sense), the Choir and I review the anime series we've watched so far. I'd say no spoilers, and we were pretty careful, but just to be safe, y'know, you've been warned.

GAKUEN HEAVEN

Genesis: "It's like a buffet of potential victims - er, playmates. I don't know where to start."
Cloud: "Ooh, bright colors. And everyone's so pretty."
Zack: "Which is why Amarissia's forcing us to watch it, I'm sure. It's okay, I guess, but all these short series are really starting to blend together."
Sephy: "Therefore, to avoid becoming too attached, she annoyingly refused to learn any names and refers to the characters by vexing nicknames."
Me: *sigh* "Too short, but I became fond of them all. Proto-Uke (short for Protagonist-Uke), Sephy-Voice, Token Curly-Haired Blond Guy, the Incest Twins, the Obligatory Genderless Doctor...have I mentioned I adore Japanese archetypes?"

SUKISHO

Me: "Did anyone else spend this whole series going 'WTF?'"
Zack: "Uh-huh."
Genesis: "Not enough jailbait-groping. Not nearly."
Angeal: "The storyline was a bit erratic."
Cloud: *squirming* "Amarissia said not to spoil anything, but I got scared toward the end."
Angeal: *pats his head* "Nothing to be afraid of, little one."
Sephy: *ranting angrily about being forced to watch too much anime involving labs and dubious science*
Angeal: "So much for not spoiling..."

ANGEL'S FEATHER

Me: "I think this one was just a confusing dream."
Zack: "Hah, you wish. Do you have any kind of screening process, or do you just jump on anything that has even a little BL in it?"
Me: "Uh..."
Sephy: "Poseurs. You're all poseurs."
Angeal: "'Everyone has wings' isn't much of a plot, I agree."
Genesis: "Yawn. I think I wandered away after the first few minutes to polish my sword. Heh, sword. Get it?"
Cloud: "Ooh, can you polish mine too? It's so big that it takes me forever!"
Genesis: *evil grin* "I - "
Sephy: "One more word to him and you die, slowly."

KYO KARA MAOU

Me: "More like Kyo Kara CRACK. It's just as addictive, if not more. I should stop referring to it as crack, though. I gave my mom a few seconds of panic."
Sephy: "I admit, it's quite interesting. I was too distracted even to recognize my own voice. I do find it odd that they gave Angeal's to my supposed cousin. What an imbecile."
Zack: "Only Angeal can have Angeal's voice! It's not fair!" *pout* "Otherwise, it's a good story. Cool characters."
Cloud: "And it's funny!" *giggles* "And I like Gunter."
Angeal: "Of course I don't like seeing Zack distraught." *pets him* "But it is amusing to hear my voice coming out of a Sephiroth clone." *chuckles* "Amarissia joked that it must have been some hushed-up mpreg experiment."
Genesis: "Am I the only one who thinks Pregnant!Sephiroth would be fucking hot? Excuse me, my, uh, sword needs attention."

DEATH NOTE

Me: "Ah, the one that convinced me to overcome my anime-phobia. This one will always be special."
Sephy: "Intelligent and absorbing. And without it, we would not have our friends who act as Scripta's muses. L-san and the others are very pleasant to talk to."
Cloud: "L is the coolest! I wanna be a detective, just like him!" *takes off shoes, sits with his feet on the chair, giggles*
Zack: "Awesome. One of the best, definitely."
Genesis: "Mmm, my spikyheaded genius pet. I do love to see him in action. Of course, I'd prefer to see him nude and on my - "
Angeal: *censors the rest of that sentence*

YAMI NO MATSUEI

Cloud: "I'm not allowed to watch this one. Seph says it might give me bad dreams."
Zack: "Shinigami rock! I could totally hang out with Tsuzuki, he's kick-ass!"
Genesis: "And a hottie. But if I had to choose, I'd take the younger one. Delectable."
Sephy: *Glare of Death*
Me: "Not only has Sephy become the great Defender of Ukes, I think he identifies with Hisoka. Bad experiences with doctors, I guess."
Sephy: "If I meet this Muraki, I will smite him."
Angeal: "It kind of seemed like something Amarissia would write."
Me: *beam* "Really? I adore YnM. I just wish there was more." *sniffle, sob*

LOVELESS

Me: "Love it. It does kinda mess with your head, though. Makes you say things like - "
Genesis: "Woo, go Soubi-san! Get the little jailbait's ears!"
Me: "Yeah, that. Even I feel kinda wrong 'shipping a college student and a 12-year-old. Zack, stop pouting."
Zack: "Does Japan not have child protective services or something? I wish we could adopt that kid, or something."
Sephy: "We tried, remember? Soubi-san retrieved him. At least he seems devoted to protecting the child."
Angeal: "Questionable morals or no, Soubi is an interesting character. Though I doubt he can be cured by hugs and plushies, as Amarissia claims."
Cloud: *giggle* "They have ears and tails, like my kitty!"
Me: "Still reading the manga, which is more difficult for me to follow. There should be more anime! I also LOVE the music."

Currently in progress with: Princess Princess, Mirage of Blaze, Junjou Romantica. Yeah. Amarissia doesn't waste time. We'll see how those go...

LOL Your choir is amusing. I liked the Princess Princess manga and Loveless IS kinda hard to follow.

And :o I didn't know that FFVII voice actors did KKM as well.

Squee, yeah, they do! Angeal's voice is used by a Sephy-clone and Sephy's is used by a complete nice guy, which is so weird. Poor Sephy's been getting teased by the Choir, but the character is a brilliant swordsman, so that makes up for it.

My daughter has me watching 'Casshern Sins' now, with 'Saint Young Men' lined up, but I think I'll substitute that Kyo Kara Maou instead. Still haven't watched any Death Note (but don't tell her that).

Yaoi

I actually have a few live actions you may want to try. Ai no Kotodama, Sukitomo, Boy's Love, and Itsuka no Kimi e. The last three have an actor named Saito Takumi in them and he's really, really good. The movies are all rather cute though with enough angst to give it depth. Give it a shot if you like and kudos for getting over the anime phobia!

YnM was fun too :P Is it weird that Muraki reminded me of Dr. Hannibal Lecter?

And I adore KKM, and blame you. It's all your fault *nods wisely* But it's so much FUN. Poor Yuuri, if stuff keeps happening to him, he's gonna loose it :P Luckily he is happily oblivious.

And I wanted to see Angel's feather, but couldn't find it...

Can't wait for the next reviews!!

*squees* I love Soubi. I have to find him and glomp him and tell him that I love when he wears his hair up. He'd probably ignore me, though. I'm not his type, being female and, y'know, over the age of consent...

Muraki is so Lecter-ish. The charismatic doctor that you want to simply hate because he's evil, but damn, he's so fascinating...

SQUEE, isn't KKM fun? And it just keeps getting more awesome. I adore all the characters. Have you got a favorite? I don't think I could pick just one, though Gunter really makes me laugh, he's so obsessed with Yuri...

I decided to do a little investigation on Angeal's seiyuu, and you're right, he's everywhere. If only they'd put in Zack's seiyuu and somehow get those two together, maybe Zack wouldn't be so pouty about it.

I've yet to see most of the anime on your list, though Loveless is one of my absolute favourites. It was my second BL anime, after Gravitation, and my first manga, so I feel kinda nostalgic about that one. Also, I enjoy manga more than anime, but I'm afraid too much of my money is disappearing in buying those, so I'm kind of on-hold right now xD

I LOVE your Choir, they´re so awesome, they should have a series of their own, as my friend and I´ve just agreed. Pervy Genesis is so much fun! At least there´s Angeal to keep him (or trying to keep, anyway) under control. And the others too, of course. Cuddly Cloud and bouncy Zack and... Sephy: "If I meet this Muraki, I will smite him." :oD

Oh, there´s an anime Saint beast and it has voices of Seph, Zack and Cloud in it ;o)

Kyo Kara Maoh is sooooooo addictive, lol.

And Death Note is probably technically the best anime ever created, lol.

And Loveless...oh Loveless. Gods I love that manga (though I know what you mean, it's a mindfuck). Stick with it. It's confusing and kind of drifty for the first 6? volumes...but it gets madly madly amazing in 8 or 9 (and then we don't have any more yet, lol, but it'll get there XD).

Hmmm, I tried to get into KKM but I found the first episode cringe worthy... I did download ALL the episodes though so I'll probably get back to it sometime, especially knowing about the voice actors.

I HAVE to watch YnM, it's on my download list but your review of it has officially bumped it up a few notches. *Evil smirk*

I agree on the LL front, sometimes I find myself being such a perve and having to slap myself (but Ritsuka is soooo cute! >_<) and now I want to check out Sukisho, never heard of it before... (investigates wiki page).

As for all of your reviews, they're pretty much on the mark. Gakuen Heaven was hilarious in the fact that you could name them all after their stereotypes, but I certainly loved how each episode would start. It always sounded like porn.

As for the voices of various Choir members in yaoi, I think you can tell what some were thinking when they cast it all... Hehe.

I love hearing from the Choir, but for the life of me I'm having a hard time getting into watching any anime. Manga I can handle; anime just makes me twitch. Which is a damned shame, because I asked for and received Advent Children for Christmas and I just can't sit down and watch it. I need an intervention.

Zack: "I still look good, though. Not as good as Cloud, I admit. The whole thing is an excuse to drool over MegaHotCGI!Cloud. Seriously. Amarissia has watched big chunks of this movie frame by frame."
Me: "If you do it during Cloud's geostigma attacks, you see some weird shit. Like wolf heads. And Sephy!"
Cloud: *cutely* "I get to kick butt in Advent Children! You gotta watch and cheer me on! Please?"

:) Try anilinkz.com and watchanimeon.com. What I do is specifically Google what I want, like if I'm looking for Kyou Kara Maou number 32, I search "kyou kara maou 32 subbed". That usually works. :)
