A different set of video recs today, since I'm a Californian who is royally PISSED OFF about Prop 8 passing. Er, isn't there supposed to be a separation of church and state? I know zip about the the Constitution, and yet I'm the one face-palming here, not the morons who allow this? Well, Keith Olberman says it much better. I never used to watch MSNBC till I discovered this guy.

And because this LJ is such a place of gayness and doesn't give any props to the female half of that, something lovely I saw...I can't remember where. Possibly on a friend's journal, and if so, apologies for not giving credit. This is from an old fandom of mine, and the song so fits it.

And a quote from the Bible I've always loved, despite being a non-Christian, and now, don't understand where the meaning of it got lost.

"A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." - John 13:34

Posted to another LJ site (not mine since my circulation isn't big). Kudos to this guy and, as a lucky Canadian, all my best thoughts for overturning this ridiculous law.

I'm not even a Californian and I'm royally pissed off. >.< It's not hurting anyone, people! Why can't you deal with it? *fumes*

Xena was one of my favorite shows when I was younger and it was still on the air.

!!! LOVED the special from Olberman. Wow. Most people who have opinions don't have any support, but he sure did bring it. And he didn't propound his own opinion, per se, but challenged others. Very nicely done.

Wow. I'd never heard of him before now, but he is amazing. I'm practically welling up listening to him.

It's just not fair. People are people, and people need love. Without it, we die, whether figuratively or literally. So why deny the right to others? The only real argument against gay marriage is that it's against religion. But who are you (religious people) to decide what God does or does not like? you've never spoken to him. Do what you think is right is your own life, let others be, and when the time comes for them to be judged (assuming there is a judgment day)let God decide for himself. It's none of your business what others do, and they're not hurting anyone by loving each other.

I'm not from California, but I was still angry when Prop 8 passed. It's blatant discrimination, and isn't discrimination illegal? Isn't there an amendment in the constitution guaranteeing separation of church and state? I believe that's what this country was founded on, freedom to choose your religion and not be controlled by others.

On a less angry note, I haven't seen Xena/Gabrielle in sooo long! That was a beautiful video, thanks for posting it ^_^.

Keith is amazing. I watch him every day and he is so right! I get soo annoyed when people believe they can play God, and stop others from achieving the happiness that they themselves are now living in. I am a catholic and I believe that marriage involves one man and one woman. But I also believe that God gave us all the right to choose. Now for everyone who is anti gay and what not, you can go out and preach to people. Tell them your beliefs. But don't take away their right to choose. Don't decide their fate. For all of you who voted Yes on Prop 8 and Prop 102,(in AZ where I live) I hope you're all willing to have your right to marriage taken away as well because if I recall correctly God said "Do to others as you would have them do to you."-Luke 6:31

It's only fair right?

Damn! Olberman's plea was spectacular! We actually discussed this in our Gay Straight Alliance meeting, today. For a long time, I've had this quote that I've used. "It doesn't matter WHO you love. It matters THAT you love." We live in a world today so full of hate that we don't even realize why we hate. It's good to have a voice of reason telling us that we need to love. I see so little of it among the so-called Christians of the campus, that I'm often embarrassed to call myself one. Especially when I'm with the Christian Club on campus and they say something completely jarring to me. I mean, I went to a liberal church where no one cared what gender you identified as or who you loves.

Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands? ~Ernest Gaines

Also, on the topic of the bible:

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision. ~Lynn Lavner

War. Rape. Murder. Poverty. Equal rights for gays. Guess which one the Southern Baptist Convention is protesting? ~The Value of Families (seriously, get your damn priorities straight, straight people!)

And, on a closing note about religion in general, from a pastor on the documentary "For the Bible Tells Me So."
"There's nothing wrong with a fifth grade understanding of God, as long as you're in fifth grade."
America needs to grow up and get it together. Love is love is love, and we can't turn away from the fact that Christians are called to embrace love in it's three purest aspects: Eros, Philios, and Agape. Homosexuality contains all three.

Thanks for posting, Amarissia.

Hee, I love my friends. *shares rainbow confetti with all who replied*

You know, I wonder how many young people are growing up okay with homosexuality just because of all the yaoi-ish anime and manga and stuff on the web? We should send a thank-you card to Japan...

I am so impressed by Keith! What a commentary on the modern times and beliefs!

As a Christian, with my father being a Deacon in the church I grew up in, and a very strict Christian mother, if you had asked me 15 years ago if it was right for 2 gays to marry I probably would have hemmed and hahed around the conversation. However, since then I have grown up and expanded my group of friends. Growing up as I did I got it pounded into my head what was 'right and wrong', but since then I have come into the knowledge that things are NOT black and white, and never will be again. It is all shades of grey. I have many friends, friends who are Wiccan, Agnostic, Catholic, Christian, and many whom I don't even know what their religious preferences are, they also include a bi-sexual, several who are swingers, some who are so straight you could draw lines with them, and one whom hasn't decided yet. But I love each and everyone of them for who they are, I do not judge them.

I am appalled that Prop 8 was passed! I do not live in CA, but I have friends who do. I live in CO where this subject hasn't even been approached, which is strange considering the amount of Californians who are moving into this state.

As a Christian who has done her fair share of Bible reading, the biggest thing I can say is this. The Old Testament was meant for the Jews ALONE! It is also the ONLY part of the Bible that mentions homosexuality. When Jesus came to Earth and died on the hill of Calgary for the sins of the world he brought a New Testament for EVERYONE! The only thing he required of his followers was that they follow him and obey the Ten Commandments (which in themselves say NOTHING about homosexuality). Jesus never said anything about homosexuality when he taught. Not even Paul, who had VERY opinionated views on women, said anything about homosexuality, and he wrote most of the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 13:13 says, "And now these three remain, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."

I ask of those who voted for Prop 8, "If you are truly Christians and believe in a loving and just God, what gives YOU the right to deny someone else the right to express their love? You are denying your fellow humans one of the most basic rights of humanity. How DARE You?"

Okay.... now that I have all that off my chest... I'll get down off my soapbox now.

Thank you Amarissa for posting this!

Woo, you go girl! :) You can also count among your friends an anxious, asexual, Aspie, yaoi-obsessed redhead. *points to self* We are, sadly, a minority.

Ah, crazy, epileptic Paul. The worst thing ever to happen to Christianity.

Not quite so much a minority! *points to self* Me too!
(although, i'm not sure what 'Aspie' means...)
Monday, February 23rd, 2009 06:42 pm (UTC)
Aspies are people with Asperger's Syndrome. It's a high-functioning form of autism characterized by, among other things, one or more obsessive special interests. Hee. I have a medical excuse to obsess. :)

... ah. Well. Um... Aspie. Got it...

Heh, I think I need to go talk to my neurologist...

My mom says prop 8 probably passed because of the wording in the voting booths. LOLOL. They -do- make it trixy.

Dude, my mom still reads Xena femslash. *facepalm* But I did love the show. Watched it with her all the time, even wrote a Sonic the Hedgehog/ Xena crossover when I was like 9. OMG. It is sort of embarrassing that I've been writing fanfic. all this time. LOL.
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 07:32 pm (UTC)
*sees nothing but 'Sonic the Hedgehog/Xena crossover'*

That sounds painful. LOL, though I doubt you were writing that sort of fic when you were nine.

LOL!

Well, you know what they say about Zack/Cloud....

It's damn well a miracle they haven't poked each other's eyes out accidentally.

That was a beautiful video. I never saw a full episode of that show (or Hercules for that matter) but always enjoyed the bits and pieces I did see. And I really want that song now.
