Yes. Back in the day, meaning before now but after I conquered my life-long animephobia (caused by my parents letting me watch this), I was one of those snooty types who rolled my eyes at dubs and haughtily insisted that only the Japanese versions were of any value, and the English dubbers all sound like they've been pulled off the street and handed a cue card. Which is true of many animes, I still think. (Kel_Fish, by the way, watch MoB in Japanese! You cannot get the full effect of Naoe's I-voiced-Muraki creepiness in English.)
What was I...? Oh, right. Alas, I have changed, a bit, thanks to way too much time spent on YouTube watching panel footage of conventions my anxiety will not let me attend. I've gotten attached to a handful of English voice actors and now must watch dubs to hear them. So now I watch anime in two languages, if you don't count that time I watched several Mirage of Blaze episodes with German subs. (Why I did this is not clear to me now that the caffeine has worn off.)
So I thought I'd try to justify this treason of mine with a small sample of what I've been stalking giggling over at YouTube when I really should be reviewing -te verbs or finishing Not Wrath of Gods (or Not Worth A Gil, as Zack has taken to calling it). Behold, video recs, the weird-voice-actor edition! Guaranteed to make you either giggle or go WTF!
First up, Vic Mignogna (Ed from FMA and the bastard who started my downward spiral) tells an amusing story about his pseudo-brother having...technical difficulties during recording.
Next, for those of you familiar with Ouran High School Host Club, just a small selection of its official bloopers.
And now, Greg Ayres tells a lovely story about having to explain yaoi to a not-so-happy fan mother.
...Quinton Flynn and Jeff Nimoy sing the Yaoi Song! (Quinton, anyone who voices Reno the Man-whore is automatically gay. Sorry.)
...Vic Mignogna and Steve Blum (VINNIE!) pay tribute to yaoi-obsessed fangirls everywhere...
...some more FMA! The voice of Roy Mustang dashes the hopes of Roy/Ed fangirls, funny as always...
Chris Patton is the other wanker who made me unwillingly love him. He's dirty-minded and has no attention span and he's even agoraphobic like me! (Note to self: keep Genesis away from this one.)
And let's end with some VAs who are not pros but sure sound like 'em. Courtesy of OrgLIX and a clever fan armed with Kingdom Hearts clips, behold, Xemnas's answering machine!
...should I be learning KH from these people? Probably not.
